Plan Your El día de los niños/El día de los libros

To better serve the growing population of libraries offering events for El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), also known as día, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) released a new día website.
The completely redesigned site includes a día resource guide designed for public and school librarians, giving them everything they need to produce a Día event at their library. Included in the guide is a program model, a planning timeline, best practices, outreach, partnerships, and marketing and publicity, as well as funding ideas.
In 2012, ALSC is focusing on serving the needs of parents, caregivers, and children. To that end, the site also has a new section devoted to ideas and resources for parents, caregivers, and children.
Yesterday, ALSC opened registration for día events around the country. By registering with ALSC, libraries can spread the word about their event and help the public locate the activity closest to them. As it has in the past, ALSC will include a map of día events around the country. More than 1,500 events have been registered with ALSC. Libraries that register their día event will receive free día stickers and buttons, while supplies last.
The día celebration was founded in 1996 by children’s book author Pat Mora, who proposed conceptually linking the existing Children’s Day with literacy. The founding partner of día is REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Literacy and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking.
