Picturing America for Public Libraries

In conjunction with exhibiting the illustrations since September 2008, a two part lecture series was organized with the assistance of Donna Silverberg. Donna is a well respected educator who has taught art at all levels in the Southbridge School System. Her passion for art is apparent in her own beautiful and creative fine art, drawing and jewelry. The Jacob Edwards Library has been fortunate to have had her work included in some group exhibits, in addition to a solo show in 2007. As well, Donna has been a docent at the Worcester Art Museum.
To date, the library has had one formal presentation by Donna Silverberg on Side-A, presented on January 22nd, 2009. There were 25 people in attendance, including educators, artists and interested public. A stellar overview of the place that these works played in the American history and culture was provided by the lecturer. Another lecture is planned on July 23rd, 2009.
