Monessen Public Library & District Center, Monessen, PA
The library offered Family Art Night with Francine Miceli. Each week the children learned about the posters along with corresponding hands on project that goes with the artist poster. She presented the history of the artist and asked the children about what they see in the picture. Each child made a craft that helped them learn about the style of the artist.
Our library offered 5 weeks of art classes with hands on activities for the children. Each week the children learned about the particular poster/artist then did a very interesting craft that went with that weeks artist. Week 1: Autumn Landscape-River of Life, and craft was simulated stained glass, Week2: Fallingwater and the craft was pressed leaf mobiles, Week3: Geoge Washington and craft: Styrofoam tray pring, Week4: The Last of the Mohicans and the craft was Ghost Dance Shirt and finally week 5: Quilts and the craft was quilt picture. This was offered during October 9-December 4th at our library. This year Feb 26-April 9th we offered more classes and they where Week1 Abraham Lincoln and the craft was make a paper camera, Week 2 we combined two classes Pottery & Baskets and The Veteran in a new filed and the crafts where natural dyed blown eggs and the children made basket out of paper. This was our final art night. This was a great way to introduce the children to the posters/artist and they got to hands on activity.
